Madam Chief Minister(2021)- Review


Madam Chief Minister is a Hindi language political drama taking us through the journey of Tara Roopram (Richa Chadda). Tara comes from a small village born to a family that comes on the lower side of the societal pyramid. Discriminated all her life and at the lowest point of her life, Tara comes to get acquainted with Master Surajbhan (Saurabh Shukla). The Master is a leader of a political party who has been campaigning all his life for the people who have always been neglected by the society. After coming under the wing of Surajbhan, Tara learns the tricks of the trade and how to survive in the political spectrum drenched in corruption, greed, and hegemony. In a short time, Tara proves her worth and ability to succeed as a political leader, be it still considered a novice by everyone. With time she earns the seat of becoming the Chief Minister; with the help of a few friends and not to mention more than a few enemies. The movie then continues with the political tale of treachery and greed that consumes Madam Chief Minister’s administration.

The basic premise should be said is fantastic and promising a great story in the making. The casting of all characters is inch-perfect and done fantastically leaving no room for complaint. The location setting and cinematography are fairly accurate matching one’s expectations. Finally, Chadda is exceptional in portraying the fierce leader that Tara goes on to be, and Shukla equally matches her class portraying the role of her teacher/guru.

But unfortunately, the actors’ efforts go to vain due to pretty much all other aspects of the film. As I mentioned earlier the premise had great potential but it still required a good script which the movie terribly fails to deliver. The story of Tara’s rise is quite unusual and honestly not at all believable. The story could have been so much better showcasing a slow and steady rise, than the clumsy and quick accession Tara achieves. One thing must be said the film surely is not short of delivering surprises with one twist after another following. But by the end, they are way too much adding to the misery of the movie. Lastly, the movie was way too stretched for no apparent reason or a story.

All in all, Madam Chief Minister is a terrible attempt at creating an Indian political drama lead by a female actor. I would not recommend the movie to anyone. But, if you like nonsensical Indian political movies or are a big fan of Richa Chadda give it a try; can’t say if you too won’t be disappointed.

Inside Man(2006)- Review Inside Man is heist thriller movie by director Spike Lee. It takes us through the 24-hour heist  on a Wall Street bank.
